A Leaders of the Free World trip hosted by CBB

In June of 2024, CBB has the honor to collaborate again with our long term partner, Leaders of the Free World, to host LFW scholars in Ghana. Among them was Bryson Stokes, whose experience was sponsored by IIE. In this article, "he shares how the two-week study tour to Ghana enhanced his studies, and how he hopes to apply the international educational experience to his career."

Examining Social Disadvantage and the Institutional Limitations of Virtual Exchange

Socially disadvantaged individuals face unique challenges within the global digital economy.

According to the latest World Economic Forum (2023) report on the Future of Jobs, companies in 26 advanced and emerging economies are rapidly digitizing their work processes. This shift is driving a heightened demand for collaborative problem-solving, global networks, and civic responsibility, all of which Virtual Exchange (VE) programs cultivate. VE, when backed by financial resources, professional development, and strategic institutional support, can significantly promote social mobility for disadvantaged students and enable their active participation in the digital economy. Effective implementation of VE programs is enhanced by institutional support in areas such as dedicated staff or offices, funding and resources, professional development, campus curriculum integration, partnership development, and assessment.

African Americans have lately gravitated toward ancestral homelands like Benin, Ghana, and Togo.

A surge in heritage trips to West Africa is being driven by advancements in DNA testing, particularly through companies like AfroRoots DNA and African Ancestry. These developments have significantly enhanced the ability of Black Americans to trace their genetic backgrounds, leading to a renewed interest in visiting ancestral homelands. This movement is further supported by partnerships between travel agencies and airlines, such as the collaboration between Certified Africa and United Airlines, which simplifies travel logistics for these heritage journeys .
